Jay Davidson Susanin, Sr.

As an entrepreneur, designer, and clever thinker, Jay Susanin brings a lot to his worktables every day.  Native to the Philadelphia suburbs, lush with phenomenal architecture, stunning landscapes & history, Jay has always been focused on his surroundings and from an early age, intrigued with the process of designing in the built & planted environments.  His studies led him to Franklin & Marshall College, The Graduate School of Design at PENN and the Dickinson School of Law.  Combined, these schools gave Jay an excellent set of skills that, as a professional, have made him a good listener & insightful communicator, an outstanding designer with architectural interiors & landscapes, and one who constantly uses personal style and history to create sophisticated, meaningful surroundings.  Jay was trained in archival research & documentation, the historic preservation of architecture & interiors, is a seasoned world traveler and has mastered photography, image restoration, and graphic design.  After combining these talents for almost 40 years, in 3 of his own design-based businesses, Jay has made his mark many times over in the communities that surround him, always creating smiles & beauty.  He lives in an 17th century farmhouse in Blue Bell, PA with his wife & children and hopes to pass on the same traditions and sense of place that he inherited.

Palladio

Named for the giant Palladian windows at its first address, J.D. Susanin’s PALLADIO has always been rooted in the finer side of custom framing & interior architecture.  Since opening its doors in 2001, PALLADIO has earned a reputation as being one of the region’s most diversified custom framing businesses.  The original business plan for PALLADIO tied together the bundle of talents & interests that defined who Jay was a designer and gave his early customers interior design & home accessories, garden design & accessories, custom framing & photo restoration.   It didn’t take long for Jay’s success with artwork & custom framing to become that hallmark of PALLADIO’s success.

25 years later, PALLADIO has evolved with his customers’ needs, the demands of an expanding client base, with the company’s intrinsic strengths and in the places where Jay’s talents shine.  Still a boutique business with a great combination of offerings, PALLADIO found its other half by stepping into the world of Photoshop, image restoration, graphic design and art production –additional services that truly complement custom framing & interior design.

BANK & SURF

In 2012, Jay’s work took him to Naples, Florida to oversee a small residential interior design project.   In creating the art plan for the house, Jay wanted to include a map of Old Naples and, in not finding one, decided to draw his own.  This map, sketched and produced like a blueprint & highlighted with a few of his client’s favorite addresses, gave birth to PALLADIO’s sister company Bank & Surf Custom Maps.  Bank & Surf was officially established in 2013 and today has a growing collection of over 750 custom maps.  2026 will see the launching of the Coastal & Nautical Art Collection and several Bank & Surf retail lines.
